- Rocky Horror Picture Show, Itaewon
Oct 31, 2014
This year for Halloween, a few of my friends and I decided to go see The Rocky Horror Picture Show in Itaewon. They had 2 shows on Halloween and we chose to go see the midnight one.
Going up to Seoul on a Friday night is a horrible idea. It took us about 3 hours to get to our hostel. There was traffic everyone and hordes of people in the subway. The Itaewon stop was packed! You just had to just go with the flow. It was nice to see children in costumes and candy bags.
I was pretty excited since I hadn't seen the show or movie before. I've only heard snippets here and there and knew some of the songs. But this is Korea, so I had to lower my expectations a bit. And I was right to lower them. The show took place at a bar and the movie was being shown on a projector while actors acted out the scenes in front of it. It took a while to get used to but it was better than not being able to understand the dialogue because the subtitles weren't working... but then again it was pretty hard to understand any words... There was a heckler in the audience that was part of the show and she over did it to the point where it was way too annoying. There was another heckler who was a lot better but he too was annoying. It's as if they memorized exactly what you were supposed to say at the right time. In the end, no one could understand what they were yelling. The show was fine, I just wish the sound system was better.
Walking around Itaewon with the horde of people out was a nightmare for someone short like me! For some reason, people would just pull on my dragon ears. I had someone come up to me and say "Cute turtle!" to which I said "I'm a dragon!" and then he proceeded to "stab" me.....? Didn't stay out too late because the night would've just gotten even more ridiculous.
The next day we went and had brunch at the Flying Pan and got some pie at Tartine Pie Shop.
