The last day of school was the teacher hiking trip to Chil Bo San 칠보산 in Goesan. Chil Bo San literally means seven beaming mountains. I still haven't bought proper hiking shoes so I just went in my converse. I didn't know what to expect other than hiking.
This was true but soju, makeolli and beer were also added in the mix. It still surprises me how koreans can do almost anything and everything while being intoxicated. The beginning of the "trail" was easy going until we reached a stream that we had to cross.

This is when the group separated into various groups. We had our lunch and alcohol by this stream. Some groups didnt cross the stream for various reasons: improper footwear, tired, didnt feel like getting wet. The ones that did cross would later hike up the more difficult "trial". I say "trail" because there really wasnt a trail. It was more like follow the path that looks like a path and hopefully you'll get to the top. This pathless trail did take us to a top but not before we did some serious climbing, grappling, sliding, roping and all sorts of crazy daredevil stunts. All of this without any safety nets, ropes or fences: korean-style. Needless to say, I was silently praying that I make it back down alive. No wonder I was the only female continuing with the hike. And don't forget that while all this hiking was happening, bottles of various alcohol were being passed around.

One thing that kept me from turning back was the fact that my soon-to-be-retired principal was still hiking. I couldn't give up then.
