It was nice not having to wake up to street noises.
The only time I woke up was when the guy sleeping below me started snoring. It wasn’t a bad snore, I just wake up to noises too easily. I also woke up at 5am because I was intensely hungry. My appetite had returned but I still had a minor headache. I definitely need to get stronger altitude sickness pills.

We got up at 530am and were downstairs waiting for our taxi by 545am. Our taxi driver had a nice car which is good because he had to drive up these hills. Seriously these hills might be worse than the the ones in SF. Plus you've got all these pedestrians and dogs walking everywhere. Lima has cats, Cusco has dogs. I’m fairly certain that all the cars in Peru are manual. He got us to the Poroy train station in no time. This train ride cost us 240s ($80).

There was a small café inside and good thing too because we were all hungry. I got Lu and I chocolate croissants but the chocolate was hard. We ate them anyways. Katriz just got a regular croissant. It was cold in the train station and I wanted some hot chocolate but they didn’t have any. I didn’t want to drink any coffee because I wanted to try to get some more sleep on the train ride.

We boarded the train and got a whole booth to ourselves. The seat next to Lu was empty. I knocked out for the majority of the train ride which was exactly what I needed. The train ride was supposed to be between 3 and 4 hours long. Before knocking out, I realized that we didn’t have our return train tickets. I freaked out because I wasn’t sure if we were supposed to have had them and I just didn’t make sure that they were in the envelope or not. I was too tired to think so I just went to sleep and figured I’ll just ask when we got off the train.

The train ride was nice. It was clean and there was a table in the center. I woke up a few times when the sun was on me and that got hot. Other than that I woke up when they served us drinks and this yummy cookie.

We arrived in Aguas Calientes at 11. The first thing I did was try to sort out our return ticket business. So I went to the ticket booth, waited in line and asked them where I could get our return tickets. To our great surprise, the ticket booth is exactly where I was supposed to pick them up and not at the travel agency where we booked from. Relieved, the lady printed our tickets, gave them to me and decided to wander around the market for a bit.
Someone from our hostel was supposed to pick us up but since we arrived an hour early we decided to kill some time. We eventually made our way to the hostel since it wasn’t that far anyways. It was about a 10min walk from the train station to our hostel. We actually passed it because the sign was too high for us to notice. The guy at the hostel looked at us confused because he was supposed to meet us at the train station. We told him we arrived early. We checked in and dropped our stuff off in our triple room. The guy at the hostel told us that the bus to Machu Picchu was down the road and the last bus would leave Machu Picchu at 5pm. It was 1230pm so we decided to get on the bus and get food at Machu Picchu.
