- Ghibli Museum in Mitaka, Japan
Sep 15, 2013
I've been wanting to go to the Ghibli Museum for a long time and since I've finally made it to Japan, I had to go. You have to make reservations ahead of time to go to the museum. I had to "order" my reservation online. It cost 1000Yen which is about $8.50ish. Mitaka is in the outskirs of Tokyo and I still wasn't used to the crazy metro/train lines of Japan so naturally I got lost and turned around once when I had to transfer. I eventually made it on the one day that it didn't rain.

After you get off the subway, there are signs pointing you in the direction of the museum. You can either take the bus or walk. I decided to walk since it wasn't too far. You also walk through a park so that was nice. At the entrance is a giant Totoro behind a ticket booth.
You can't take photos inside the museum so all I have are photos from the outside. You can go up to the roof by going up the spiral staircase. At rooftop is a Laputian from the movie Castle in the Sky. That was pretty cool. There's a small walk way and if you walk around the whole thing you come up to one of the stone tablets from Laputa. You can also see the entire view of the museum.
I bought a lot of stuff for people and myself. And since I couldn't take photos of the museum, I bought the museum book that also came with a sort of history book of how the museum came to be. There's a page where it shows other famous animators' mark when they visited the museum. Another one called "This is the kind of museum I want to make" is written by Miyazaki. And when I bought the museum books, I got a free poster! YAY!
