I didn’t know what to expect from this airline: Biman Bangladesh Airlines. I had a 23hr layover in Dhaka from Nepal and going to Myanmar. During the flight they gave us bottle water and a bottle of coke. Whoa! The food was a little weird. I think it was a sweet tuna sandwich and this pudding dessert with small noodles? And a cupcake. I wasn’t too hungry since I scarfed down some chicken momos at the Kathmandu airport before boarding. Now that was good! It was kinda weird being in a plane filled with 95% men. Who stared. It was a little better in the airport but still it was primarily men.

The airport is way better than Kathmandu one. Each bench has 3 chairs and I totally slept fine in it. Minus the insane amount of mosquito bites I got the moment I stepped out of the airplane. I also killed a butt load of them. The upside was that the bites didn’t itch too bad after a while. The bites on my hands (they were the only skin exposed and got bit during the night) went away after the first few minutes. Seriously paranoid in the beginning since all my bug spray was in my check in and there was no pharmacy or any place to get medicine.

The reps for the airline told me that it would cost $51 to put me in a hotel and get a transit visa. No thanks. They instead fed me dinner, breakfast and lunch.

The airport stays open all night. That was weird. At 6am I went into the only coffee shop and basically stayed there for 6 hours charging my Surface and phone. There is unlimited free wifi! If it weren’t for all the mosquitoes… Also the Cricket world cup (?) has been airing on all the flat screens and this morning Bangladesh was playing against New Zealand and it entertaining hearing cheers and groans all day. I of course don’t understand cricket so I just uploaded photos on FB and updating this blog.
I also woke up knowing that my lips were bitten twice because it definitely felt swollen. Now that was weird... my left hand has 9 bites =[ actually there were 15 when I counted after my shower in Myanmar.

I recently found out that this airport is used by the Bangladesh Air Force which made perfect sense seeing all the men in combat uniforms with guns strapped on their backs. Seriously, they were everywhere.

The plane was pretty much empty. If only long flights had this much free space! The food was pretty good too. I don't know what they were but the ones in the middle of the plate were amazing! And then there was the sunset. So beautiful...
