The Fortress
The Jinju Namgang Yudeung Festival originates from the lantern lighting custom used during the Jinjuseong Fortress Battle of the Imjinwaeran War (Japanese invasion, 1592) as a military strategy to prevent Japanese troops from wading the Namgang River.
The moment we stepped inside, we were greeted by these historically dressed koreans. We then proceeded to walk around the park since we had time to kill before sunset.

The river was filled with floating lanterns. The walkway to get across the river was also decorated with lanterns.

For lunch we had samgyeopsal and being the oldest, I shouldn't have been the one to cook but that's alright.
My favorite part of the festival was the lantern bridge.

There was also another bridge with various lantern designs.

There is a Lighting ceremony, you can make your own lantern and then float it on the river. There were also shows going on. We went to go watch one but we were confused because it was all in korean. of course.
Once sunset fell, the lights came alive and all you could see were lanterns everywhere. Some lanterns moved like the ones below.

There was also a parade going on along the bridge packed with various samulnori groups and lantern floats.

Along the left bank of the river was a light show. The trees were strung with various lights and designs. It was really pretty.
